Welcome to the Blog
Cheers to the start of this new chapter.
To be honest, I have nearly a decade of experience in marketing, content creation, and influencer/brand ambassador management. Because of that, I can confidently say that social media has truly changed from what it once was. What started as a way to connect and build communities around shared hobbies and life experiences has now become many people’s full-time source of income.
I’m not knocking that at all. I still have a select few favorite accounts that I love following. However, recently I’ve noticed that many social media platforms and apps are pushing more and more ads. Random people I’ve never followed or have no interest in, constantly pop up on my feed. A majority of the accounts I once enjoyed now seem to have a sponsorship attached to nearly every post. It can start to feel overwhelming: buy this and feel better, do this and attract more, fix this with just a small investment.
And then comes the more brutal truth… looking inward and asking myself why I post and what I actually gain from it. It’s been a question that has been rolling around in my head a lot lately. Does this post matter? Am I just posting for validation? Am I posting to educate, to entertain, or to connect? What is actually worth posting?
A friend of mine recently shared a podcast that discussed the psychology and dopamine we get from posting online. One point it made stuck with me: we’ll spend time searching for the perfect filter for a plate of pasta. It’s funny, but also incredibly honest.
While I know a blog is still a form of social media in its own way, I’m hoping to use this space as an inspirational outlet. A place to connect and create a community. In some ways, I want to bring back the good old days.
I have a lot of exciting plans for this space, but I also want it to be about being mindful and slowing down. I don’t want to do something just for the sake of posting, or immediately think, “I have to tell the world.” Instead, I’m looking at this as a sort of public journal, sharing things I enjoy, things I’m learning, and moments of life with friends and loved ones.
That said, welcome to the blog.
