March Musings: What I Loved, Learned & Lived

So, here goes my first official monthly recap. And wow… I already feel like I have so much I want to share. March felt full in the best way, so I tried to organize everything into a few little sections to make it easier to recap.

Reading Recap

This month I finished three books:

  • First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston – my book club’s pick. I listened to it on audiobook and gave it 3.5 stars. The premise was fun and kept me interested, though the ending left me a little confused… or maybe I just dozed off on the plane ride back from a work trip. Honestly, that feels more likely.

  • Best Offer Wins by Marisa Kashino – also listened on audiobook. I loved it so much I reached out to the author just to give kudos. Definitely a new auto-buy author for me. I also need to snag a physical copy for my trophy shelf ASAP. I gave it 4 stars.

  • Mapping the Interior by Stephen Graham Jones – a very short 90-page read. It was good but not stellar for me personally, so I rated it 2 stars.

Shows I Watched

I’ve realized I tend to keep two shows going at once, one for solo evenings and one that my husband and I watch together.

For my solo nights, I started Nobody Wants This on Netflix and ended up finishing it pretty quickly. The show follows an agnostic sex podcaster and a newly single rabbi who unexpectedly fall in love while navigating very different lifestyles, families, and belief systems.

It’s funny, charming, and the kind of show that’s easy to turn on when you want something light but still engaging.

The other solo show I started was No Good Deed and when I say started, I mean I watched the entire thing in one night. All eight episodes are about 30 minutes long, which made it dangerously easy to keep hitting “next episode.”

The series is a dark comedy that centers around three very different families all competing to buy the same Los Angeles home, believing it will solve their problems. Of course, the house and the people selling it come with a lot more secrets than anyone realizes.

The cast is stacked with recognizable faces, including Ray Romano, Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe from Friends), and Linda Cardellini (who you might recognize as Velma from Scooby-Doo).  The performances alone make it worth the watch.

For our couples show, Rettis and I started The Hunting Party. The premise is pretty wild! After a secret prison in Wyoming explodes, some of the nation’s most dangerous serial killers escape. A former FBI profiler named Bex is recruited to track them down while uncovering a much larger conspiracy. It’s suspenseful, a little eerie, and it also features Melissa Roxburgh from Manifest, which is one of my all-time favorite shows.

One last honorable mention: while visiting my family in Alabama, I started rewatching Burn Notice. I used to watch it with them years ago, and revisiting it now as an adult has been surprisingly fun. I’m catching all the little bits of humor and wit that completely went over my head when I was younger, which made it feel nostalgic in the best way.

Inspiration

I caught a short clip of The Barrymore Show and had to reshare the segment on flowers “Flowers are not suppose to last. Their job is to help us stay in the present” -celebrity floral designer Kristen Griffith- VanderYacht

Memories

Small moments from this month that I want to remember.

Gratitude List

A few things I’m especially thankful for right now:

  • The sun has finally started melting the snow in our town. It makes me so happy and is such a simple joy to soak up while working outside.

  • My husband and I also stumbled upon an awesome local coffee shop with deliciously crunchy but still fluffy bagels. I’ve tried their Dubai chocolate latte and brown sugar Biscoff latte, and both were delish!

  • The first plants we choose for our garden (blueberries) are starting to bud!

Lessons from the Month

• My energy is one of my most valuable resources. I’m learning to be more intentional about where it goes, whether that’s the media I consume, the things I buy, the work I take on, the chores I commit to, or the relationships I nurture.

Thanks so much for reading my March recap! I’m excited to carry the little discoveries, lessons, and inspirations from this month into April. Here’s to another month of good reads, shows, and small moments worth remembering.
